Resources and References for Employers

The ASRS Employer Reference Materials webpage should be a go-to resource for all our ASRS employer partners. It puts all our manuals and guides in one place, has the handouts for recent Basics or Employer Conference sessions, and links to previous editions of this employer newsletter. Additionally, below are links and explanations of other important employer resources and webpages that provide helpful information.

    • Employer Manual – A comprehensive manual that covers the ASRS processes and procedures employers are responsible for
    • Supplemental Savings Plan – bookmark both the Employer and Member versions of this page so you and your employees can learn about the opportunities to supplement your retirement benefits.
    • Long Term Disability – Find the ASRS LTD Employer Guide, informational videos, and frequently asked questions (FAQ) about LTD on this page.
    • Compensation Quick Reference Guide – This guide is a great visual aid to help you determine whether or not compensation is reportable for ASRS contributions based on your employee membership date.
    • Contribution Reporting: On this page you’ll find the guides for web-based and file upload contribution reporting as well as the current contribution rates.
    • Road to Retirement Guidebook – This guide helps you and your employees answer questions about ASRS benefits, retirement eligibility, preparing for retirement, how a pension is calculated, and how to qualify for a health insurance premium benefit.
    • Alternate Contribution Rate – When an employer hires an ASRS retiree, contributions are due from the employer at the alternate contribution rate (ACR). This page answers FAQs and includes a guide and template that shows you how to correctly report ACR.
    • Legislative Updates – this webpage has summaries of recent and past legislation that impacts ASRS and links to the ASRS Bill Tracker, where you can find detailed bill summaries and legislative schedules.
    • Employer Administrator – If you are an employer administrator, you are responsible for the security of your organization's access to ASRS records. This guide explains how to create and maintain registered web users and monitor their online activity.
    • Online Enrollment Guide – One of the biggest responsibilities of an ASRS employer is properly enrolling employees who are eligible to participate in the ASRS. This guide shows you how to provide employees with enrollment instructions and how to review, reject, or submit their enrollment.

Another helpful article to bookmark is “Fantastic Resources and Where to Find Them” which provides a list of resources organized by employer web user roles.

If there’s a resource you use regularly that you feel could use an update or additional clarification, please send your comments and suggestions to [email protected]. Please include the title of the reference material in your subject line so we know which resource needs to be reviewed.
