Your Responsibility in Hiring Retired Workers

It is the member’s responsibility to ensure compliance with the ASRS Return to Work rules and statutes and the employer’s responsibility to help ensure compliance. Failure to do so can result in suspension of benefits and repayment of unlawfully paid benefits.

The ASRS has developed an online tool that will assist members who are planning to retire and return to work for an ASRS employer to quickly see if they are eligible to retire, return to work for an ASRS employer and continue to receive their pension benefit. To access the tool, members must log in to their MyASRS secure page and select the Working After Retirement link in the left menu.

Retirees can verify their status and submit a required Return to Work smart form online as well. To access the tool and complete the online form, they also must log in to their MyASRS secure page.

Note: Any new retiree returning to work for an ASRS employer on or after June 6, 2014 must complete the Return to Work online form. Also, any current return-to-work retiree must complete the electronic form if their employment status changes from less than 20/20 to more than 20/20.

Once a retiree submits the Return to Work smart form, the employer will receive the form in the ployer secure webpage. Employers should refer to the >Return to Work Guide for details in processing the form.
