Employer Data Security Tips

In our current business environment, we all must take additional steps to safeguard data. Here are some suggestions that may assist you in these efforts.

    • Ask for clarification. If you are being asked to provide information and something doesn’t seem quite right, take the time to speak directly with the person requesting the information.
    • Use encryption. Don’t send sensitive data through unencrypted email.
    • Stay alert. Don’t dismiss your suspicion until you have confirmed that a request is legitimate.
    • Have employees register for a myASRS account. Encourage your employees to register their myASRS account if they have not done so. Members should periodically login to their online accounts and update passwords on a regular basis. Using a personal email address for personal accounts is preferred to employer-provided email addresses.
    • Keep ASRS employer user accounts up-to-date. Deactivate accounts for individuals who have terminated their employment.
