Contributions Received After Retirement

When ASRS retirees return to work and do not suspend their retirement, their employer must pay contributions at an alternate contribution rate (ACR) on their behalf.  ACR is required regardless of the hours worked (whether meeting 20/20 criteria or less than 20/20 criteria), and regardless of the capacity (direct employee, leased employee, independent contractor).  Read more on page 6-19 of the Employer Manual and on the Alternate Contribution Rate page.

All ASRS retirees who return to work as a direct employee (not as a leased employee or independent contractor) are required to submit a Working After Retirement smart form.  When ACR is received on behalf of a retiree and a Working After Retirement form has not been received, the ASRS sends an email to retirees as a reminder to complete and submit the form if they are a direct employee.

If you submitted ACR for a retiree who is a direct employee, instruct the employee to log in to their personal, online account to submit a Working After Retirement smart form.  You will need to verify their form electronically before submitting it to the ASRS.  Read more on page 4-13 of the Employer Manual and on the Hiring Retired Workers page.
