ASRS Recognized for Excellence in Financial Reporting

For the 28th consecutive year, the Arizona State Retirement System has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its 2016 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.

The award by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada recognizes “achievement in the highest standards” for government accounting and financial reporting.

The GFOA also recognized the ASRS for its 2016 Popular Annual Financial Report, a reader-friendly summary of the full annual report.

The GFOA is the professional association of state/provincial and local finance officers in the United States and Canada, and has served the public finance profession since 1906.

“This recognition shows the high standards that the ASRS meets in its financial reporting and serves to confer confidence to our members that their retirement fund is soundly managed,” ASRS Director Paul Matson said. “It also speaks highly of our staff and their commitment to excellence.”

Deputy Director and Cheif Operations Officer Anthony Guarino also recognized former ASRS Chief Financial Officer Nancy Bennett, who oversaw the 2016 reports and recently retired from the ASRS after serving as CFO for nearly 15 years.

“Nancy’s leadership as chief financial officer was simply outstanding and has set high standards that our Financial Services Division continues to uphold,” Mr. Guarino noted.
