Membership in the ASRS reached a record 542,845 for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2013, with an increase of more than 10,000 workers who joined the ranks of retired.
Here are some other facts about the ASRS, as presented in the 2013 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report:
- The number of actively contributing members declined from 214,346 to 207,572 from 2012.
- The number of inactive members increased from 204,203 to 208,573.
- The number of retired members increased from 112,306 to 122,257.
- The number of disabled members decreased from 4,646 to 4,443.
- The total fund was $30.6 billion, up from $27.8 billion the previous year.
- The investment rate of return on the total fund was 13.1%, up from 1.3% the previous year.
- The funded status of the total plan was 75.9%, up slightly from 75.7% the previous year.
